The Lincoln Memorial reflected in the Reflecting Pool beneath a peach sunset in Washington, DC.
America at 250: a flowing American flag and illustrated landmarks from Philadelphia, Boston, Washington, DC and New Orleans

The American story. Your next chapter.

America at 250

Four cities, three ways to go. History you can stand in.

Philadelphia, Boston, Washington, DC and New Orleans, planned for late 2026 and all through 2027, while the 250th anniversaries keep coming.

Travel closer to what matters.

Washington, DC / Lincoln Memorial

Four distinct citiesTwelve ways to make them yoursPlanned around you

Pick the chapter that calls to you

One country.
So many stories.

In 2026 the United States turns 250, and the anniversaries do not stop at July 4: the Philadelphia campaign and the winter at Valley Forge reach 250 years in 2027, and the story keeps unfolding. These are four cities where that history is still standing. Pick a city, pick your way to go - Affordable, Family Friendly or Luxury - and we build the trip around it.

Philadelphia

The Declaration was signed and the Constitution was written here, in rooms you can still stand in. Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, Benjamin Franklin's city and the Museum of the American Revolution sit within a short walk of each other - and 2027 marks 250 years since the Philadelphia campaign and the winter at Valley Forge, so the story keeps going.

The places behind the plan

This is why you go.

Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell anchor the founding story; the Museum of the American Revolution adds the people and the choices behind it. Then the city widens: the Barnes Foundation, the Parkway museums and Reading Terminal Market make Philadelphia a trip, not a field trip.

Build around Old City

Keep Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell and the Museum of the American Revolution together in the Historic District rather than crossing the city between visits. Independence Hall's timed tickets are free from the National Park Service - reserve ahead; a small handling fee applies.

Give the big days their own day

Valley Forge and Longwood Gardens are excursions beyond central Philadelphia, not add-ons. Give either one its own day and arrange the drive.

Affordable

02 / Where it boiled over.

Boston

The Tea Party, Paul Revere's ride, Lexington and Concord, Bunker Hill: Boston is where the argument turned into a revolution. The Freedom Trail ties 16 historic sites together over 2.5 miles of red brick, and every April, Patriots' Day brings the battles back to life at Lexington and Concord.

  • Freedom Trail
  • Charlestown Navy Yard
  • Lexington & Concord

NPS Photo

The places behind the plan

This is why you go.

The Freedom Trail is the backbone: Boston Common to Faneuil Hall, through the North End to Paul Revere's house and the Old North Church, then across the river to USS Constitution and Bunker Hill. Walk it in chapters, and leave a day for Lexington and Concord, where the first shots were fired.

Split the trail into chapters

Downtown, the North End and Charlestown do not have to be one long walking day. Walk the sections that suit your group and save your legs for the sites you care about.

Match the hotel to your Boston

Downtown puts the Trail at your door; the Seaport suits waterfront plans and families; Beacon Hill slows the pace into a smaller-hotel stay.

03 / Where it's kept.

Washington, DC

The Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are on view in the National Archives Rotunda. Most of the Smithsonian is free. Add the monuments, the Capitol and George Washington’s Mount Vernon, and DC is the place to see what the founding became.

  • National Archives Rotunda
  • Monuments & Memorials
  • Mount Vernon
The Lincoln Memorial reflected in the Reflecting Pool beneath a peach sunset in Washington, DC.
NPS/Terry Adams

The places behind the plan

This is why you go.

Free admission changes how you build a DC trip: choose fewer museums and give them more time. Stand in front of the real charters at the Archives, walk the monuments at dusk when the crowds thin, and save a day for Mount Vernon, where Washington's story is a house, a farm and a view over the Potomac.

One main museum a day

Pick American history, natural history or aviation as the day's main event and plan its entry arrangements first - the National Air and Space Museum uses free timed passes. Fill the rest of the day around it, not the other way round.

Leave space between the landmarks

The Mall is bigger than it looks on a map. Build in breaks and transport that work for the people traveling, and choose a neighborhood - Capitol Hill, Georgetown, the West End - for dinner.

Affordable

04 / The America that grew after 1776.

New Orleans

New Orleans is not a Revolution city, and that is the point. It is the story of how America grew: the Louisiana Purchase was transferred at the Cabildo on Jackson Square in 1803, the Battle of New Orleans was fought at Chalmette in 1815, and jazz was born here. Food, music and history - all of it honest about who built this city.

  • French Quarter
  • Jazz Traditions
  • Food & Streetcars

The places behind the plan

This is why you go.

Start at the Cabildo, where the 1803 transfer doubled the size of the country. Ride the St. Charles streetcar under the oaks, give the National WWII Museum a full day, and save the evenings for the music the city invented. New Orleans rewards travelers who slow down.

Give music its own evening

Choose the venue, the reservation and the age policy before you commit to a night out - a Preservation Hall set and a late night on Frenchmen Street are different trips, and family plans are a third.

Treat Whitney as a distinct visit

Whitney Plantation tells its story from the perspective of the enslaved people who lived there. Plan the drive both ways and time to reflect afterwards; it is not interchangeable with another plantation tour.
